Sunday River Resort Wedding | Newry, Maine | Andrea and Stacia

And even better, I get to be the other half of you.” -Sara Bareilles, I Choose You (ceremony song)

“I know just one thing is true, life is better with you.” -Michael Franti, Life is Better With You (first dance song)

“The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.” -E.E. Cummings (we both had this as our senior quote in high school!)

Today’s blog post is all about a wedding that I’ve been excited about for a long time.  Almost a year and a half, actually.  Andrea and Stacia are a very special couple to me because I was there from the beginning, from the day Stacia proposed to Andrea in the Moab, Utah desert, with Stacia’s college pal Beth there to pop the champagne.  And, let me be the first to tell you, it was worth the wait.  From the handmade signs and buoys that Stacia made, to their insanely cool grand entrance to the ceremony on a chondola, to the groovy choreographed first dance that Andrea and Stacia performed for their guests, to their absolutely hilarious friends and family, it was an amazing day.  After you look through these photos, I’ll meet you at the end of the page with a really cool story…

So, I promised you a story.  Andrea and Stacia’s wedding ceremony and reception was on the top of a mountain, and the only way to access the mountaintop is by riding the chondola up from the Sunday River Resort located mid-mountain.  The ride takes about seven minutes.  So, at the end of the night, I packed up my cameras and hopped on the chondola to ride back to the parking lot, where Jessie was waiting to pick me up.  Once in the parking lot, I realized I’d misplaced a flash and it was nowhere to be found in any of my bags.  So, I asked Jessie to join me in an after dark chondola ride back up the mountain.  Riding a chondola in the dark is really neat because it’s insanely quiet in the cabin.  All you can hear is the faint hum of the cables.  After a couple of minutes riding quietly, Jessie points down and whispers, ‘Look.’  Below us in the dark were thousand of fireflies twinkling.  It looked like the night sky beneath us.  Looking around us, with the night sky full of stars above, and the thousands of fireflies below, it was surreal and serene and possibly the most beautiful moment of our entire trip.  And there are no photos, sorry.  No photo could have done that moment justice.  I hope the other guests noticed and were able to enjoy the view we saw, because it was beautiful beyond description.

And that is the story of Andrea and Stacia’s wicked awesome Maine wedding.  With fireflies, sparklers, epic entrances, seriously cool shoes, mountaintop views, and more love than you can imagine, it was a day that I will always remember.  Thank you Andrea and Stacia, for having me be a part of your story.  It was an honor and a pleasure, and I look forward to seeing you both next time I’m in Maine.  Congratulations.
