Today is the 100th birthday of America’s best idea, the National Park Service. On this day 100 years ago, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Organic Act, establishing the National Park Service as an agency to manage federal public lands. Today we have 58 national parks and a long list of protected public lands in the form of national forests, seashores, historic parks, and so on. On a side note, putting this post together has made clear to me that I’m very behind on editing my travel photos and I should set aside some time to go through them. But first, I’m going on a road trip. Because the mountains are calling.
